Suspect in Homicides Near Goleta Appears in Court

The Santa Barbara County District Attorney has filed five felony charges against Nicolas Holzer, who is suspected of a quadruple homicide near Goleta. Holzer made his first court appearance on yesterday after being accused of killing four members of his own family. He did not enter a plea. Holzer is charged with fatally stabbing his parents, his 2 sons and the family dog Monday night at their home near Goleta. Sheriff's officials said Holzer called 911, calmly telling a dispatcher he killed his family and later told investigators he committed the crimes to "fulfill his destiny."  Holzer's attorney asked the judge to continue the arraignment. The D.A. says it could be several weeks before she decides to seek the death penalty if Holzer is convicted. He’s due back in court next month.
