The Pismo Beach City Council voted 4-1 last night to develop an ordinance to allow a resident to keep a trio of surfing goats at his home. Dana McGregor regularly takes his goats, named Pismo, Grover and Goatee out surfing. The goats live in McGregor’s backyard. Pismo Beach allows goats to be on the beach, but does not permit them to be in city parks or be kept or raised within city limits.
The proposed ordinance would allow McGregor’s surfing goats to live at his home and he could take them anywhere in the city as long they are leashed and he cleans up after the animals. No more than four goats would be allowed on private property a permit would be needed to keep or raise goats in Pismo. The proposal would also allow the animals to be in city parks. If approved, the new ordinance would be in effect for a one-year trial period. The surfing goats can be seen on YouTube or at surfinggoats.com.
