SLO Chief Deputy Heading To Guadalupe

San Luis Obispo, CA — Gary Hoving, former chief deputy with the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office, has been named interim director of public safety for the city of Guadalupe.

Hoving’s employment is expected to be approved at the City Council’s Feb. 12 meeting. He will be filling a vacancy created by the retirement of former police Chief George Mitchell.

He will have responsibility for both the police and fire departments. The Guadalupe police department has 10 sworn officers and two non-sworn office staff. The fire department has three full-time fire captains and 11 paid on-call firefighters.

Hoving is the second San Luis Obispo County official to take a position this month in Guadalupe.  City Councilman Andrew Carter will also be leaving San Luis Obispo in order to take a job as city administrator of Guadalupe.
