Shooting in San Luis Obispo


At about 11:20 July 19 the San Luis Obispo Police Department began receiving calls of multiple gunshots being heard in the 500 block of Bluerock. Additional callers reported seeing a male suspect with a rifle immediately following the shots being heard.

Responding officers determined the suspect fled the scene in a silver Dodge Charger. Witnesses said the suspect was in possession of the rifle when he fled.

No injuries were reported at the shooting scene and all rounds fired by the suspect have been accounted for. Officers were quickly able to learn the identity of the shooting suspect through the help of family at the scene. Cesar Rosales was identified as the shooting suspect by his step-father who was the intended victim. The victim was left un-injured as a result of the shooting.

The Police Department was able to narrow the search area for Rosales to a neighborhood in Oceano. Deputies from the San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Department responded to the area where they located Rosales and his vehicle. Rosales was taken into custody without incident and was turned over to Detectives from the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

The rifle used in this incident was not located at the time. Detectives were able to locate the rifle a short time later at a location in Arroyo Grande.

At this time there are no additional suspects outstanding and the gun used in this crime has been located. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident. Detectives are still working this incident. Interviews were conducted with Rosales, his mother and step-father. As a result of those interviews Rosales was arrested for Attempted Murder. Rosales was booked at the San Luis Obispo County Jail with bail set at $500,000.
