On Saturday, at approximately 4:00 p.m., San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's deputies and Search and Rescue team personnel suspended their search for 65-year-old missing person Rafael Chavez Gonzalez. Search and Rescue teams, with the assistance of a California Highway Patrol helicopter, searched the vicinity between where Gonzalez disappeared on the Nipomo Mesa on the 2400 block of Willow Road and into the downtown Oceano area where he was suspected to have been heading. There is no additional information regarding Gonzalez' whereabouts. The missing person’s case is currently under investigation by Sheriff's Detectives; foul play is not suspected as of this time.
Sheriff deputies and investigators have been unable to establish any verifiable sightings since October 21st when it is suspected that he voluntarily left the family property and may have attempted to walk back to the Oceano area.
