Patients who suffer traumatic injuries can now be treated locally at MRMC rather than be transported to a hospital out of the area when seconds and minutes can make all the difference between life and death.
At the end of March a team of "trauma surveyors" made an on-site evaluation of MRMC and determined the hospital met the criteria for official trauma center designation.
It recommended MRMC be approved for Santa Barbara County's Emergency Medical Services Agency which granted the Level III designation.
Marian has hired a team of doctors, nurses and specialists skilled in trauma services to care for severely injured patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
At its peak, MRMC averages 1 or 2 trauma patients everyday or up to 40 patients a month.
