A former aide to U. S. Representative Lois Capps has pleaded guilty to a hit-and-run death of a Santa Barbara woman last December, according to a Santa Barbara county prosecutor. Mallory Dies, 27, was crossing a street in downtown Santa Barbara whet she was hit by Raymond Morua.
Morua will be sentenced to twenty years in prison as part of a plea agreement. Morua pleaded guilty on Tuesday to a DUI gross vehicular manslaughter with two prior DUI's and to leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death. The agreement forces the prosecution to drop a murder charge against Morua. Morua will be sentenced on May 28th when Dies's family will have a chance to speak at the hearing.
