San Luis Obispo, CA -- Undersheriff Steve Bolts pleaded not guilty yesterday to charges of driving drunk in June. Bolts' attorney said that a blood test showed he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.09 percent. A preliminary breath screening taken by police after the traffic stop showed a blood-alcohol content of 0.086 percent. The legal limit for driving in California is 0.08 percent. The defense intends to re-test the blood and formally requested audio and video recordings from the police department for review. Bolts holds the second-highest ranked position in the Sheriff's Department.
