Teen Arrested After Botched Robbery

Goleta, CA -- A 17-year-old boy was arrested after attempting to rob a Subway sandwich shop in Goleta Sunday night. At about 8:45 Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of an attempted robbery at the Subway. According to two employees, an unknown suspect entered the sandwich shop, pointed a gun at them and demanded money. The employees fled to the back of the store to avoid the suspect who ended up fleeing the store without getting any money. Later that night, at approximately 10:20pm, a Santa Barbara Police Officer saw a reckless driver on East Haley Street in Santa Barbara. A short six block pursuit ended when the reckless driver crashed the vehicle into a retaining wall on Diana Lane. The driver fled into the neighborhood, but SB Police caught him a short time later. It turns out that the car had been reported as stolen. Police found a handgun during a search of the vehicle.

An investigation into the 17-year old suspected car thief helped detectives to link the teenager to Sunday’s attempted robbery. The juvenile, who was already booked into Juvenile Hall for the stolen car incident, was booked on Monday for attempted robbery and commercial burglary.
