Cop Killer Sentenced To Death

 San Mateo County -- An East Bay cop killer is sentenced to die. A San Mateo County Superior Court judge Monday upheld the jury's capital punishment recommendation for 26-year-old Alberto Alvarez, who was convicted of killing East Palo Alto Police Officer Richard May.
May was born and raised in San Luis Obispo and previously worked as a Lompoc police officer. Alvarez was found guilty of shooting May in the head during a gunfight on January 7th, 2006 on Weeks Street in East Palo Alto.
One juror said the deliberate fatal shot to Officer May's head was the determining factor in recommending capital punishment.
