Atascadero Couple Arrested For Attempted Murder After Bar Fight

Avila Beach -- An Atascadero couple is in jail after a verbal argument in at Mr. Ricks escalated Friday night.

43-year-old Michael Simmons and his wife, 50-year-old Janet Simmons, began arguing with another man around 10:30. Michael Simmons then allegedly slashed the victim with a box cutter causing a serious wound to the victim's neck. Responding deputies were able to detain the suspects. The victim was taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, where he received multiple stitches.

Janet Simmons had the box cutter during the booking process at the San Luis Obispo County Jail. She was booked for attempted murder, conspiracy and being drunk in public. Michael Simmons was also charged with attempted murder and remains in custody. Bail was set at $500,000 each. The victim is expected to recover from his wounds.
