Safety Officials Investigating Deadly Industrial Accident in Paso Robles

Two people are dead after they get washed down an underground pipe while on the job. Thursday night just before 9, the Paso Robles Fire Department was sent to the intersection of Niblick and South River Roads to rescue two workers who were trapped in a water filled trench. The North County and SLO County Technical Rescue teams and Paso Robles Public Works were all on scene. The water was pumped out, and 45 minutes after they arrived, a two-person rescue crew went down the pipe. The bodies of the workers were found as far as 70 feet down the pipe. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. The identities of the workers have not yet been released. The cause of the water line break is unknown, but safety officials are still investigating.
