Paso Robles, CA -- Teachers in the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District are angry over a proposal that outlines a three percent pay cut this year and next year for teachers. The cash-strapped district has even less money than it thought because auditors found an accounting error of $1.59 million last September. The teachers say this is the district's fault and they shouldn't have to suffer for someone elses mistake. For many teachers, it’s a fiancial blow. District leaders say these three percent cuts are a first for the struggling district. It already faces a four million dollar budget gap over the next two years. The accounting error made it even worse.
Other solutions must be found, says the teacher's union. The union and the district are expected to meet with a mediator since they are at an apparent impasse.
