Nipomo, CA -- A Nipomo man is behind bars for allegedly being drunk and firing his .22 caliber rifle into the air. 24-year-old Mitchell David Rowles may have also fired his 12 gauge shotgun. San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's south station deputies responded to a ‘shots fired’ call on Friday evening near the Trilogy housing area on Viva Way and N. Mesa Rd. Deputies located Rowles lying in the roadway with a .22 caliber rifle next to him and a 12 gauge shotgun on a sling underneath him. Deputies approached, secured the weapons, and summoned medical personnel. There were no signs of trauma on Rowles, who was unresponsive. Deputies located expended shells at the sight.
Rowles was transported to Arroyo Grande Community Hospital where he was treated and later released after allegedly being diagnosed as under the influence of alcohol.
Deputies then booked Rowles for negligent discharge of a firearm, a felony, and booked him into SLO County jail. Rowles remains in custody on $20,000 bail.
