.A 22-year old man from Santa Maria is being held in the Santa Barbara County Jail on $1-million bail for attempted homicide. Jose Anthony Plata is the second person arrested in connection to an attempted homicide in the Tanglewood area on Sunday, January 8.Early morning on January 8, 27-year old Sergio Marquez of Santa Maria went to Marian Medical Center seeking treatment for a gunshot wound to the neck. Further investigation revealed that 28-year old Rudolph Paul Rojas shot Marquez during an altercation at Rojas’s home on the 2000 block of Tanglewood drive.
On Thursday, January 12, sheriff’s detectives served a search warrant at Rojas’ home where they arrested him for attempted homicide. During the follow-up investigation, detectives discovered that Plata was also involved in the shooting of Marquez.
On Thursday afternoon February 2, detectives served a search and arrest warrant at Plata’s aunt’s residence in the 1600 hundred block of North Western Avenue in Santa Maria. Plata was arrested without incident and booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail for attempted homicide and belonging to a street gang. Other charges may be forthcoming.
