Elderly Fire Victim Identified

San Luis Obispo, CA -- The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff - Coroner's office has identified the woman who died Wednesday evening in a house fire at 587 Al-Hil Drive in San Luis Obispo as 79-year-old Barbara Beck.

 

An unattended stove in the kitchen caused the fire.  According to fire investigators, the home did not have smoke detectors, and that may have contributed to the late recognition of the fire.

 

Firefighters found Beck unconscious in a rear bedroom of her home. Despite their efforts with CPR, Beck was pronounced dead at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center.

 

Firefighters were initially called at 7 p.m. to Beck’s home, which is in a neighborhood near Bishop’s Peak Elementary School. The home was well involved when they got there. The exact cause of Beck’s death is pending.
