San Luis Obispo, CA -- San Luis Obispo police are looking for a man and a woman who stole a Costco customer’s purse last Saturday and then ran up a $2800 bill at Target and an $1800 tab at the Apple Store next door using the woman’s credit cards.
At about noon two suspects entered Costco and stole a wallet out of a customer’s purse that was in the top part of her shopping cart. The victim realized the theft when she went to check out. At about the same time the victim’s credit card company called her and told her that one of her cards was just used at Target and the Apple Store in San Luis Obispo.
Target’s security cameras videotaped the two suspects while they were in the store. The videotape also shows the suspects exiting the store right after making the fraudulent purchase. One suspect is a white or light-skinned Hispanic female, approximately 30-35 years old, 5’6” tall and weighs about 160 pounds. Her companion is a white or light-skinned Hispanic male, approximately 30-35 years old, 5’10” tall, and weighs about 200 pounds.
The police department is asking for help in identifying these suspects. Over the last two years there have been several similar cases where purses or wallets have been stolen out of shopping carts at Costco and other stores. In these cases the victim’s credit cards were fraudulently used before the victim had knowledge of the theft or before the cards were canceled. The police department is reminding citizens to not leave personal items unattended in shopping carts while shopping. If anyone recognizes these suspects please contact the police department at 805-781-7317.
