Plastic Bags To Be Banned At Many SLO County Stores

San Luis Obispo, CA -- Come October 1, you won’t  be using plastic bags at supermarkets, pharmacies, convenience stores and big-box stores in San Luis Obispo County. The Waste Manaagement Authority Board voted 8-5 yesterday to ban them as part of an effort to get shoppers to start bringing in reusable bags.

One group called "Save the Plastic Bag," out of San Francisco, says it will now file a lawsuit against the county within thirty days to overturn the vote. San Luis Obispo County is now the 15th community in the state to pass such a ban.  If shoppers don’t bring reusable bags, they can buy a paper bag for ten cents.

The ban does not apply to smaller stores under ten thousand square feet.
