San Luis Obispo, CA -- The number of DUI deaths in California last year was the lowest it's ever been. In fact, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says California had the largest decline of any state in the nation. A record low of 791 people were killed in crashes blamed on drunken driving last year, compared to 950 people in 2009. The California Office of Traffic Safety credits the decline to a record number of DUI checkpoints conducted in 2010.
