Routine Traffic Stop Arrests Two on Drug and Child Endangerment Charges

San Luis Obispo, CA -- A San Luis Obispo County North Station deputy made a routine traffic stop at Hwy 46E and Golden Hill Rd. at 10:42 AM Tuesday morning and ended up making two arrests, turning over an 18 month old child to Child Protective Services and recovering property. The deputy was suspicious because the rear license plate had been covered and the vehicle stripped of brand and model plates, similar to stolen vehicles. Frances Vaca Cardenas and Mares Leticia Rodriguez were arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance and child endangerment.

A vial found in the vehicle tested positive for methamphetamine. The 18 month old infant was found standing in a car seat at the time of the stop. Deputies noted various items that appeared to have been taken from a barn or similar storage facility and matches the kind of property taken in rural crime burglaries.
