San Luis Obispo, CA -- A new budget approved by the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors yesterday morning, corresponds with the state prison realignment policy. The county was given 2.2 million dollars by the state for realignment as more criminals are sentenced to county jails instead of prison. The new budget means more hirings by the Sheriff's Department and the county's Probation and Health Departments. Seven full-time positions for the Probation Department, 17 for the Sheriff's Department and four for the Health Department will need to be filled. But, Jim Salio, the county's chief probation officer told KSBY "The big issue that we're most concerned about in the county is the ongoing funding for the program," he said. "We're funded this year through this fiscal year in the state budget, but there are no guarantees for funding in future years."
