Several Groups Walking For Nuclear-Free World

San Luis Obispo, CA -- A small group is walking from the Central Coast to the Bay Area calling for a nuclear-free world. Marchers took off from the gates of Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant Saturday. Mothers for Peace is one of three groups behind the two-week peace walk, which will end in Vallejo. The group will walk about 15 miles a day, focusing on nuclear waste in the state. Participants are calling for an end to nuclear.

Linda Seeley, Vice President of Mothers for Peace, told KSBY, "We have over four million pounds of highly radio active nuclear waste about ten miles from where we are standing right now on earthquake faults. So we are very concerned about that," Diablo Canyon has always maintained that the plant and the spent fuel storage facilities are structurally safe in the event of an earthquake.
