San Luis Obispo, CA -- A pathway in Shell Beach near Shell Beach Elementary is stirring controversy among some of the people who live in the area. The pathway is located between Terrace Avenue and Vista Del Mar. It's been closed since 2005. Before that was used by people living in the area and some call it the "safe path to school." The issue came up at the Pismo Beach City Council meeting last night.

Several parents told the council the pathway needs to be reopened for the safety of the children, claiming the crosswalks at the top of Shell Beach Road are dangerous. The city council has now directed staff to open the lines of communication with the property owners. If that doesn't work, they have to look at other alternatives.
