San Luis Obispo, CA -- According to a police report, the Arroyo Grande woman allegedly shot to death by her son went to visit him in San Luis Obispo out of concern that he’d been suicidal. 34-year-old Christopher John Shumey, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, told investigators he’d “felt off” in the month leading up to his confessed shooting of his mother Karen Shumey on September 17. Shumey also told investigators that he fired his shotgun in the direction of the responding officers hoping police would shoot him because he couldn’t do it himself.
