Atascadero, CA -- An Atascadero man was camping at Lake Nacimiento this weekend when he was bitten by a dog. Rick Wilson says he approached a stranger's pit bull that was tied up in the owner's campsite to pet it. That’s when the dog bit his face. Wilson ended up getting forty to fifty stitches. The dog's owner apologized profusely. But it's not the dog, or even its owner, Wilson is upset with. He says he left multiple messages for San Luis Obispo County Animal Services, but it took days to quarantine the dog. State law says an animal has to be quarantined for ten days after biting someone. Animal Services says in cases where the animal is still actively threatening public safety, they’ll send an officer out, but in this case they didn’t consider the dog an active threat. They knew where the owner was and that the dog was under his control. The dog is still in quarantine right now, and Animal Services says they are still investigating the circumstances of the attack.
