Thousands of Lightning Strikes Cause Fires

Santa Barbara, CA -- Crews had their hands full Saturday, working to contain several small wildfires, after thousands of lightning strikes. Two fires started around 6:30 Saturday morning. One was on the 7600 block of Figueroa Mountain Road, the other was nearby on the 9000 block of that same road in the Santa Ynez Valley. Fire crews said nearly three thousand lightening strikes are to blame for the fires. Firefighters from Santa Barbara County and the U.S. Forest Service went to work. They first contained the "Tunnel Fire" at two acres, then sent engines, bulldozers and handcrews to the "Goat Fire," which had spread to 35 acres.
