California Valley, CA -- At about 6:45 in the evening the highly active electrical storm caused a short in a power line in California Valley. That short caused a utility pole to catch fire, and knocked out power to nearly 200 Carrizo Plain residents for about 22 hours. As the pole burnt, embers felt to the ground, causing nearby grass to catch fire. Due to the rains that accompanied the storm, those flames never spread. By 11 o’clock Sunday morning the utility pole had burnt down to about six feet tall. It was replaced at about 5:30.
