San Luis Obispo, CA -- A man fell from a cliff near Ragged Point yesterday afternoon and was found unconscious on the beach. He had, reportedly, regained consciousness by 5:30; at that time, a helicopter ambulance on its way to pick up the hiker. First reports of the injured man came in shortly after 2 o’clock. Rescuers arrived at the remote resort, 23 miles north of Cambria, and started heading down a trail at about 2:45. The helicopter was nearby before 4 o’clock, but landed away from the scene to conserve fuel until the patient could be brought to a spot where he could be safely loaded. Foggy conditions in the area hampered the helicopter pilot’s visibility. No word yet on what caused the hiker to fall.
