Santa Maria, CA -- A Santa Maria woman is behind bars and an 18-year-old man is in the hospital after officers she assaulted him with a machete early Saturday morning. It happened around 5:45 near the Laz E Daze in the 1300 block of North Broadway in Santa Maria.

Officers say 39-year-old Christina Summers was arguing with the 18-year-old when she hit the victim in the back of the head with a machete. The victim is recovering from non- life threatening injuries at Marian Medical Center. Summers was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail in Goleta on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.
