Grover Beach, CA -- Grover Beach police arrested a Tustin man Monday afternoon after he allegedly drove away from a crash. At about 3:15, an officer on patrol was flagged down by witnesses who said a hit-and-run collision had just happened in the Burger King parking lot on Grand Avenue in Grover Beach. The officer spotted the U-Haul that was associated with the collision and tried to pull over the driver. The driver, 60-year-old John V. Soto, then fled northbound on Oak Park Boulevard and turned west onto El Camino Real. Soto drove into oncoming lanes of traffic, narrowly missing other vehicles. Officers followed him onto southbound Highway 101, reaching speeds up to 80 miles per hour.
Soto eventually pulled over near El Campo Road and Highway 101. He was arrested on suspicion of felony evading police, evading police in the opposite direction of travel, misdemeanor hit-and-run and several vehicle code violations.
