Santa Maria, CA -- A Nipomo man allegedly stole from the Santa Maria Wal-Mart then led officers on a pursuit. It started around 9:30 last night when police were called to Wal-Mart on South Broadway in Santa Maria. 38-year-old Matthew Weatherman was reportedly caught stealing. When Wal-Mart security tried to arrest him Weatherman took off and got in his car. Santa Maria Police say they began chasing Weatherman on northbound Highway 101. They say he led them into Nipomo and through rural San Luis Obispo County. He abandoned his car near Division Road and Highway 1 and tried to run away, but officers were able to arrest him. One Santa Maria Police officer sustained a minor injury during the brief foot pursuit.
