Motorcyclist Dead After High-Speed Accident

Santa Barbara, CA — On January 8, a fatal motorcycle collision occurred on Cold Springs Rd., south of La Paz Rd., in the unincorporated area of Santa Barbara County.

At approximately 11 p.m., a twenty-one year old Santa Barbara man was riding his motorcycle south on Cold Springs Road, south of La Paz Road, at a speed estimated to be in excess of 100 mph.  As he approached the south exit of Westmont College, he lost control of his motorcycle. 

The motorcycle ultimately ran off the roadway and collided into a tree.  The rider was ejected from the motorcycle which continued across the roadway and caught fire. The rider succumbed to his injuries on scene prior to the arrival of first responders.

At this time, it has not been determined if alcohol or drugs may have been a factor in this collision.  This collision remains under investigation.
