Local Schools Locked Down During CHP Pursuit

Authorities have two people in custody following a pursuit through northern San Luis Obispo County. We don’t know their names yet.

The California Highway Patrol says the chase started in Cayucos after a reported robbery around 7:10 yesterday morning. The driver led police on a chase on Highway 46. The CHP says the driver in a black pickup truck collided with a CHP car near North Bethel Road. The officer was taken to a near-by hospital where he was treated for minor to moderate injuries.

The chase then continued heading toward Atascadero. A spike strip was laid down and a PIT maneuver was attempted.  That's where the driver crashed his vehicle and two suspects got out of the car and ran off.

The CHP and Atascadero Police found and arrested the two suspects just after 8:50 am.

One was found hiding underneath a mobile home after he tried to gain entry.  The residents held the door closed so he couldn’t get in and called police.

Two schools in Atascadero Unified School district were placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure.  San Benito Elementary School and Del Rio Continuation High School lifted their lockdowns after the pair was arrested.

The Templeton Unified School District placed all four of its schools on lockdown.  Those schools lifted their lockdowns as well.
