The San Luis Obispo International Film Festival is proud to announce the 19th annual King Vidor Award recipient – actor, John Hawkes. The award will be presented immediately after the George Sidney Independent Film and Audience Awards, on Saturday, March 9 at 7:00pm at the Fremont Theatre in San Luis Obispo.
"We are delighted to honor the outstanding work of John Hawkes, one of Hollywood's most versatile actors," said Festival Director, Wendy Eidson. "His career has spanned everything from cutting-edge independent films to cable television dramas and comedies to Hollywood blockbusters, and he delivers a stand-out performance in every role he takes on." His most recent work includes The Sessions and Lincoln.
Hawkes first caught audience's attention when he starred in the critically acclaimed Me and You and Everyone We Know, which received wide praise and was awarded the special jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival as well as the Camera d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. His additional film credits include Martha Marcy May Marlene, American Gangster, Identity, Miami Vice, The Perfect Storm, From Dusk Till Dawn and Hardball.
It was for his role as a menacing meth addict in Winter's Bone that Hawkes was nominated for an Oscar and won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actor for his chilling and memorable performance. Most recently he was nominated for a Golden Globe and SAG Award and won an Indie Spirit Award for Best Actor for his amazing performance as poet and polio survivor Mark O'Brien in The Sessions.
The King Vidor Award presentation will be followed by a conversation with John Hawkes and a Q&A with the audience. The evening begins with the George Sidney Independent Film and Audience Awards, presented to winning filmmakers by festival sponsors.
