The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department and the California Highway Patrol are conducting a joint investigation into an officer involved shooting that occurred on December at approximately 8:00 p.m., in the area of Patterson Avenue and Agana Drive.
Shortly before 8, the California Highway Patrol issued a BOL (be on the lookout for) a wrong-way driver in the area of Patterson Avenue and Calle Real in the unincorporated area of Santa Barbara County.
It was reported the vehicle was driving North bound in the South bound lane of Patterson Avenue. The description of the wrong-way vehicle was a red full-size pick-up truck. While looking for the vehicle, a Sheriff’s Deputy and a Highway Patrol Officer located a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle they were looking for. The deputy and officer attempted to stop the vehicle in the area of Patterson Avenue and Agana Drive. During the attempt to stop the vehicle, several shots were fired at the vehicle.
The driver, a 52-year-old male, was injured as a result. The driver was subsequently transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital where he is being treated for what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries. No deputies or officers were injured in this incident.
