Hwy 41 Closed After Gun Shots Reported

Atascadero, CA — On Saturday about 4:50 p.m., the Atascadero Police Department received multiple 911 calls regarding subjects shooting firearms in the creek bed adjacent to Highway 41 in the 3 Bridges area.   APD officers arrived on scene and determined that the shots were coming from the area between the creek bed and the highway. 

Due to the continuing gunshots and the proximity of the highway traffic, Highway 41 was closed with the assistance of the California Highway Patrol and the Morro Bay Police Department.

Deputies from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office as well as the California Highway Patrol Helicopter responded and assisted in the location of the suspects.  Four   suspects complied with orders and were taken into custody without incident.  One suspect had remained concealed in the creek bed and surrendered after the helicopters announcement.  The suspects were taken into custody without further incident.  Highway 41 was closed for approximately an hour.  Four rifles and one twelve gauge shotgun were recovered at the scene.

The five suspects were booked and released from the Atascadero Police Department.
