At around 6:45 a.m. yesterday morning, Sheriff’s Deputies at the main station parking lot on Calle Real in Santa Barbara received a LoJack activation alert which notified them that a stolen car was in the area.  The vehicle was confirmed to be a black ,Lincoln Navigator that had been reported stolen out of Cardiff in San Diego County.  Sheriff’s Deputies began tracking the signal and soon after located the vehicle heading northbound on Highway 101 near Winchester Canyon.

Several Sheriff’s Patrol Units responded as back-up. A felony stop of the vehicle was initiated but the driver refused to yield and instead accelerated.  A pursuit ensued northbound on Highway 101 and reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.  During the chase, the suspect exited and reentered the freeway at three locations which included Refugio Road, Mariposa Reina and the Gaviota Rest Stop.  When the suspect got to the area of Pork Palace in Buellton, he made a U-turn and proceeded southbound for less than a mile, then made another U-turn and resumed northbound on the freeway.

About four miles north of Los Alamos, California Highway Patrol Officers used a spike strip to disable the vehicle.  The suspect surrendered to Sheriff’s Deputies without incident.  33-year-old Jason John Dobbie from San Diego County was arrested and charged with driving a stolen vehicle and for evading police.  He was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on $75,000 bail.
