At around 12:30 p.m. July 4th, Santa Barbara County Air Support Unit Copter Two was flying over the area of Highway 154 and Painted Cave Road when a Deputy on board observed a vehicle located 300 feet down a cliff, at the bottom of a ravine, in an area of thick brush.
Sheriff’s Deputies and California Highway Patrol Officers responded to the scene. Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue volunteers assisted in retrieving the vehicle.
The white Chevy pick-up is registered to the subject of a Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office missing person case from March of 2012. It has not been determined yet if there are any occupants in the vehicle. It has also not been determined when the accident occurred.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. More details will be released as they become available.
