CAL FIRE/San Luis Obispo County Fire Department had a very busy day yesterday responding to five wildfires over the course of the afternoon. High temperatures, low humidity, wind, and bone-dry vegetation coupled with human carelessness are to blame.
Fire investigators issued a misdemeanor citation for one of yesterday’s fires, citing "mowing" as the cause.
The "Dune Fire" located at the California State Park Pismo Beach Campground was reported at 3:30 p.m. and quickly made the evacuation of the campers necessary.
At the height of the fire, 83 firefighters battled it from the air and on the ground as initially it was threatening numerous structures. The cause of the Dune Fire is "probable human caused" but is still under investigation.
Road closures and all evacuations have been lifted. The fire burned approximately four acres.
