At 4:05 pm, Santa Barbara County Fire Department (SBCFD) responded to a reported vegetation fire, located south of the Harris Grade summit.
The fire spread initially from 5 to 10 acres, at a moderate rate of spread on the east side of Harris Grade. The fire was slope driven and burned in pine trees. Wind was not a factor. Temperatures were in the mid to high seventies. The forward progress of the fire was stopped at 6pm and is estimated to be 10 to 20 acres. As of 7:45 the fire was 44% contained.
The cause of the fire is was determined to be a byproduct from a passing vehicle (catalytic converter). The grade will be closed due to cleanup operations until 3 p.m. today.
