Victim of Fatal Crash Identified

The man who died in a solo vehicle collision on Highway 101 last weekend has been identified. 18 year old Ezequiel Gutierrez of Watsonville was in the car of an alleged drunk driver when he died. The CHP had received several calls of someone in a 1990 Honda driving erratically on Highway 101. CHP Officers took a helicopter out to locate the car, and found it just south of Arroyo Grande. According to the CHP, it was then that 28 year old Apolinar Rodriguez lost control of his car, causing it to go off the road, down a 30 foot embankment and hit a tree. CHP Officers found one of the victims thrown out of the burning car, and the other two were still in it. One of those men was Gutierrez who was pronounced dead at the scene. Rodriguez and 18 year old Benito Salvador were taken to Arroyo Grande Hospital for treatment. Rodriguez is being charged with felony DUI and felony manslaughter. |
