Atascadero, CA -- Over the past two months Atascadero has seen a big spike in thefts from vehicles. Police say there have been 57 thefts since August 1. In most of the cases, the vehicles were unlocked, but in a dozen or so cases, the thieves broke into the vehicles to steal items. Police say the most recent thefts occurred in the south end of town near El Camino Real between Santa Barbara and Santa Rosa Roads. Police would like people to report any cases if they haven't done so already. They are also reminding people to lock their cars up and not leave valuables behind or in plain view.
