San Luis Obispo, CA -- San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's new K-9 unit assignments were introduced to the public yesterday. Sheriff Ian Parkinson was on hand as well as three deputies assigned to the office’s canine program who showed off the dogs — Jacco, a Belgian shepherd, and Nico and Gonzo, two German shepherds.
Expansion of the canine program cost $60,000. Monies were collected from asset forfeitures that the office received from past busts.
Costs include buying the dogs as well as equipment to outfit three patrol cars accordingly.
The dogs and handlers will finish training in the middle of January and be assigned to patrol stations in Los Osos, Oceano and Templeton.
