A Santa Barbara Sheriff’s helicopter crew made quite a discovery while they were searching for Lance Erik Leage, the hiker who went missing this past weekend. The Sheriff’s helicopter crew was flying over the area when they spotted a marijuana grow above the hills of Highway 41. On Monday and Tuesday, they saw four Hispanic males tending to the grow and later harvesting the pot. On Tuesday, deputies attempted to arrest the suspects, but they managed to escape. Tuesday evening, law enforcement secured the area and removed nearly 4,000 marijuana plants from the hills between Morro Bay and Atascadero. The estimated street value per plant is $3,500. The case is still under investigation, but Narcotics detectives are not tying the death of Leage to this case. |
