The Latest in the Study at the Pier

A group of researchers from Cal Poly is one step closer to pin-pointing the source of the high bacteria levels at Pismo Beach. The Tribune says that all research so far is consistent with the beach itself being the source of the contamination. Several water samples from when the tide comes in, shows that all the dog and pigeon droppings over the beach as well as other contaminates wash into the ocean, raising bacteria levels. High bacteria levels in the water is not only bad for tourism, but can cause ear and intestinal infections. The City of Pismo Beach received over 700-thousand dollars in grant money to find the source of the pollution. The final report is due by the end of 2009. |
