Sunny Acres in Danger of Foreclosure if Appointed a Receiver

San Luis Obispo, CA -- A judge may appoint a receiver to oversee the Sunny Acres sober living facility in San Luis Obispo owned by controversial rancher Dan DeVaul. A receiver would make sure that DeVaul is complying with building and safety laws. DeVaul met with county officials yesterday, who continue to claim that DeVaul isn’t providing proper plumbing or electricity at some of his building on his ranch, thereby posing a hazard to those living there. DeVaul says that he can’t afford to pay for a receivership, and fears losing his ranch on Los Osos Valley Road to foreclosure.

The next hearing date for the case is set for December 7. But Judge Charles Crandall could make a motion before then. The county says DeVaul has not taken the proper steps to bring his facility up to code. DeVaul has testified he is doing everything he can to abide by county law. Sunny Acres has been home for the last several years to those unfortunates who have, according to DeVaul, been saved from the 'crik.'
