State of Emergency Declared on Santa Barbara County
|
A local state of emergency was proclaimed just before 10 Wednesday night due to the Gap Fire burning in Goleta. The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors sanctioned the declaration during a special meeting Thursday morning at 11:30. Declaring a State of Emergency helps the County to compete for firefighting resources which are currently very limited.
Power has also been a problem for residents on the South Coast. The blaze has damages power lines, leaving many residents without any electricity. The Emergency Operations Center suggests that if any residents who still have power limit their usage. The outage has also affected water supplies. Over 150,000 residents are without power.
As of Thursday morning, the fire has burned over 2,400 acres, growing over 2,000 acres overnight. |
