State Senator Abel Maldonado Named Lieutenant Governor

 Sacramento -- Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger says he will name Santa Maria State Senator Abel Maldonado to be California's next lieutenant governor, replacing John Garamendi, who won an East San Francisco Bay Area seat in the House of Representatives, earlier this month.
Making the announcement on the Jay Leno show in Los Angeles Monday night, Schwarzenegger stressed that Maldonado is a moderate Republican and a bipartisan guy.
But, Garamendi is a liberal Democrat, so replacing him with a Republican, even a moderate, might not sit well with the majority Democrats who will be asked to confirm Maldonado in the state Senate and Assembly.
