Sigma Phi Epsilon Still Shut Down at Cal Poly

San Luis Obispo, CA -- Cal Poly will continue to revoke recognition of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. The university revoked recognition of the fraternity on July 22, after an investigation into allegations of sexual assault at a party in May uncovered several alcohol-related violations. The chapter had appealed the findings to Vice President for Student Affairs, Cornel Morton.

The university says the violations include the fraternity providing alcohol to minors; serving alcohol at an open party with unrestricted access by non-members; and purchasing alcohol in bulk quantities. According to the university, the national Sigma Phi Epsilon headquarters may submit a request to reestablish a chapter at Cal Poly no sooner than June 30, 2017.
