The local chapter of an environmental organization is doing its part to battle global warming. The Sierra Club has agreed to fund Morro Bay’s membership in the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives as part of its Cities for Climate Protection Campaign. The City Council approved the idea at its meeting Monday night. The international association provides software and other technical assistance to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions on a local level. Two years ago, the Morro Bay joined more than 800 cities that have passed the Mayors Climate Protection Agreement in which cities pledge to measure their greenhouse gas emissions and start executing programs to reduce those numbers. San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles joined the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives earlier this year. |
